Welcome back to TechVentures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My name is Lazina, and I\u2019m a Technical Marketing Engineer at Future Electronics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are interested in checking out any previous TechVentures videos, then please feel free to click the link on the screen or check out the description box below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, we\u2019re diving into the Cyclops2 adapter board- an advanced interface designed to make camera module evaluation easier and more powerful. Let\u2019s get started! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inside the box, you\u2019ll find:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Cyclops 2 camera module adapter board (FUT-CYCLOPS2)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The camera module (FUT-AR0830-MIPI-99FF)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>15 pin Flex cable<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>6 Jumpers<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To follow along, you\u2019ll also need the <strong>Goldilocks board (FUT-NXP-GOLDILOCKS)<\/strong>. Don\u2019t worry if you don\u2019t have one\u2014Cyclops2 now supports additional NXP microcontroller boards, like the <strong>i.MX93<\/strong> and <strong>8M Plus EVK<\/strong>, thanks to its new flexible interfaces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"low\" src=\"https:\/\/content.futureelectronics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6429\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"low\" src=\"https:\/\/content.futureelectronics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6432\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">MCIMX93-EVK <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"low\" src=\"https:\/\/content.futureelectronics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6430\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">8MPLUSLPD4-EVK<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was not possible with the first version of the Cyclops board. On the screen you will find a list of NXP microcontroller evaluation boards the Cyclops 2 board is compatible with: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"low\" src=\"https:\/\/content.futureelectronics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6434\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, what\u2019s new with this version of the Cyclops board?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cyclops2 integrates the onsemi AP1302 Image Signal Processor with the AR0830 image sensor, and it supports multiple connection formats like FLEX15, FLEX22, and Mini-SAS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s designed for applications like machine vision, barcode scanning, gesture recognition, robotics, VR, and biometrics, basically any vision system you want to explore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s take a quick tour of the board:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"low\" src=\"https:\/\/content.futureelectronics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image-2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6431\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"low\" src=\"https:\/\/content.futureelectronics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6436\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>Mini-SAS connector<\/strong> for camera and display inputs on NXP evaluation boards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>15-pin Raspberry Pi ribbon connector<\/strong>, great for flexibility with different camera modules. (black connector in the middle) <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>22-pin MIPI connector<\/strong>, which supports 4-lane connections (versus 2-lane on the 15-pin), (white connector)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And finally, the <strong>camera module slot<\/strong>, where you\u2019ll gently press the camera into place. In this case, it&rsquo;s our new onsemi IAS compliant AR0830 module. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next, let\u2019s configure the jumpers. Set them as follows: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>P3: Flex15<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>P6: Closed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>P1: Closed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>P2: 48 MHz<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>P5: Open<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>P7: 1.05V<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now it\u2019s time to bring the system together!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grab the flex cable and connect Cyclops2 to the Goldilocks Mama Bear board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On Cyclops2, the blue side of the cable faces outward<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On Mama Bear, the blue side faces the headphone jack<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once connected, let\u2019s move on to the firmware.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Download the latest firmware from the link to the DC Engine found in the quick start guide. After extracting the update package, you\u2019ll see four files. Keep this folder open, we\u2019ll need it shortly.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"low\" src=\"https:\/\/content.futureelectronics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6435\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Set the mama bear board into serial download mode by setting the DIP switches to 1000, so SW1 and SW2 have to be reversed. The default out of the box is 0100. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"low\" src=\"https:\/\/content.futureelectronics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image-4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6437\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now connect both Micro-USB ports (J13 and J14) to your PC, and connect power through PWR J1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Back on your computer, double-click the flash.bat file. The image will download, it\u2019ll take approximately 10 mins. Once complete, power off the mama bear board, flip the DIP switches back to their original positions, power the mama bear board back on, and log in with username root, there\u2019s no password.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before launching the demos, there\u2019s one last step: updating the Bluetooth MAC address on the Baby Bear board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have a mouse connected, this update will make pairing seamless. If you don\u2019t, just log into the serial console and run the command on the screen, \u201c.\/find_baby.sh\u201d.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><img decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"low\" width=\"366\" height=\"218\" src=\"blob:https:\/\/www.futureelectronics.com\/05533daa-5bd6-4735-b02d-d0503a71b8ca\" alt=\"A screenshot of a computer AI-generated content may be incorrect.\"\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Follow the on-screen instructions, and within about 60 seconds you\u2019ll see the sensor readings on your Goldilocks GUI start to update. That means everything is connected properly and ready to go! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"low\" src=\"https:\/\/content.futureelectronics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6433\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, for the fun part!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Straight out of the box, there are 3 working demos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll get:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>D\u00e9tection d&rsquo;objets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>HD video streaming<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And there is support for the full NXP demo experience!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the demo GUI, you\u2019ll see two new buttons, one for object detection and the other for the Cyclops 2 HD camera demo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have a mouse, connect it to the mama bear and click and run the demos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you don\u2019t have a mouse, you can run the commands from your serial monitor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Run the command \u201c.\/object_detect.sh\u201d for object detection and \u201c.\/camera.sh\u201d for the HD video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"low\" src=\"https:\/\/content.futureelectronics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/toy-cars-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6438\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"low\" src=\"https:\/\/content.futureelectronics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/toy-cars-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6439\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stop the demos anytime with Ctrl-C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And that\u2019s it- your Cyclops2 is up and running!!
